Establishing Your Financial Foundation, Pt. 1

Establishing Your Financial Foundation, Pt. 1

A foundation is “the basis or groundwork of anything”..

When we think of the various ways we use the word foundation in our lives, a few that come to mind are:

  1. The slab a house is built on – Foundation
  2. A person with strong morals since they were young – Foundation
  3. A coach that tells us the fundamentals are the basis of being great – Foundation

You would probably say that you have a firm foundation because you cannot be easily swayed.

On a simple scale, you believe blue is the best color but I believe it’s purple. I give you my argument for why purple is better than blue, but you don’t budge. Part of that is because there’s nothing that interests you about my argument, but now let’s say that I know you can’t live without your phone.

So I take it from you when you’re not watching and I give you my argument again for why purple is better than blue, but this time I add, “if you agree with me, I’ll give you your phone back”.

Would you think differently about your answer? Would you agree with me just so you can have your phone back? Or would you forget about your phone because you know that there’s nothing out there that can rock your boat and you’re sticking with blue at all costs.

Something in your life made you feel that strongly about the color blue, and should the topic of discussion change, something in your life made you feel that strongly about anything in your life. There’s something completely engrained in you that knows, trusts, and believes in the things that you have a firm foundation of.

To say you have a firm foundation on something you don’t understand would be false, because otherwise you wouldn’t feel so strongly about it. Unless you’re telling me there’s things in your life that you know nothing about that you have built your house on?

We’ll get into that another day; but you can’t build something lasting on a foundation you don’t understand. So, before you can begin trusting God with your financial portion, you have to first understand who God is to know what pleases Him.

“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on the house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall. – Matthew 7:24-27 (NKJV)

So Who is God?

We’ll dive into this and more next week.

I love and appreciate you, and may God bless you and yours.
